"Adopt an Unwanted Child or Baby"

Pray for Life!!!! Let us continue our 40 days of reflection on life, and give thanks to God for life in all its forms. Oh how very, very beautiful it is for those unable to conceive a child to adopt an unwanted child or baby ..this too is a gift of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit places a desire in the hearts of the would be parents to nurture, protect and bring forth life.

In every situation in life there are advantages and disadvantages, but one of the great blessings for a child of adoption is the realization how much, how very much it is wanted, and loving desire is beautiful it is also a prayer. How many children know joy, have the blessings of parenthood through adoption?

Countless and indeed in some families even more than one child. These parents are not one breath less true parents than its biological parents, indeed parenting is far more than simply producing children, it is born of love and service, bonding and the sharing of joy and tears.All parenthood should speak to us of God, and adoption has much to say because we are all adopted children of our heavenly Father, wanted and loved.The most profound and beautiful lesson any child can ever learn is that it is loved, because this enables the child to love and respond in turn.

An adopted child will have its struggles, it will have its challenges especially when it has to cope with former rejection, but to know that it was so wanted, prayed for, suffered for, longed for will give the child ultimately a deep security, for none of us can exist without love.

So let us pray for all families nurturing life with a new child in their midst, for all those who are contemplating adoption, and give thanks for them all, they too are great apostles for life !!!

Dearest Little hearts,

We are on the verge of World wide Rosary day, a day set apart by the Universal Church for prayer, turning in a special way to Mary Our Mother and Queen for aid.

Let us prepare our own hearts today by repentance for our failures to respond to the love of God and our failures in our lack of response to serve and love others..... thus bringing our hearts into tune with the spirit of the day and entering into this great song of prayer.

All around the world, parishes, communities, families, individuals in every walk of life will be praying in some degree.the Rosary...It is not the amount of prayers we offer to God but the love that motivates them , so let us give it our full attention in as far as we can in our struggling and often distracted humanity.

Here at the monastery we will be having a day set apart for this praying of the Rosary with continuous Exposition and the praying of our hours. Join us in spirit, we have the greatest weapons in our hands against evil, the Rosary and our hours ( the Word of God) let us use them to the full and PRAY FOR LIFE, FOR PEACE WITH JUSTICE..... let us support the 40 day campaign for life with prayer, because without it all the plans of men will fall upon a barren wayside.

October 4 World Wide Rosary Day

In October, 1996, a Worldwide Rosary was organized for the 50th anniversary of His Holiness Pope John Paul II’s priestly ordination. The event was held in 20 countries simultaneously. In Mexico, the Rosary was prayed in 2,600 different locations, with more than three million people participating. During the Worldwide Rosary Day which took place in October 2000 more than 140 countries joined in, with scores of Rosaries organized in Churches, stadiums, Cathedrals, bullfight rings, town squares, jails, hospitals, schools, etc. Many of these events were broadcast over live radio or TV. Millions of people participated all over the world.We wish to invite all religious and lay movements from the world to organize massive Rosaries, joining in this Worldwide Rosary Day 2008, in as many locations and countries as possible; to become part of this grand event during the month of October, programming the Rosary to take place during the first weekend of this month. We ask you to promote this event which surely pleases Jesus and Mary enormously.

Goals:

• Prayer intentions: for love to flourish among human beings.
• For World Peace, Life and Family.
• For all the Unborn.
• For the Pope, all priests, and religious vocations to priesthood and consecrated life.

"Fruitfulness is Given by God"

We all need prayers, we all need grace that our lives may be fruitful, fecund. There are many ways to be barren, to be infertile and not all pertain to the biological factors.

Fruitfulness is given by God, it is the abundance of love, a person may be without biological children and yet be very beautifully fruitful by their love , service and self sacrifice to others. We see this often with women in the single unmarried state who care for the children of others, who care for other human beings, this is their parenthood, the fruitfulness of service. We see this in the lives of those in the consecrated life, Gods intent is that they be true 'mothers' and 'fathers' to the souls entrusted to them.

Unforgiveness, selfishness, greed, hatred all render a person infertile and barren for they fail to pass on the good that would give life to others.

In or out of marriage, single or consecrated Gods intent is that our lives are fruitful.

The barrenness of infertility is a cause of a deep wound and pain in so many married couples, and that too is a path of trust, trust that God will in fact in some way make their union fruitful for others, often the faith of a praying soul is rewarded in Gods time with a child, possibly also by the means of adoption or fostering. But if it is not God has seen their hearts he has heard their cries and will if they are open to the transmission of life, his life, will make their lives fruitful in another way.

Let us pray deeply for the gift of life in all its manifestations both biological and spiritual, because he wants us to have his life in abundance.

Foster Care or Adoption: That Is the Question... Guest post by Heidi Hess Saxton

I would like to welcome my sister in Christ, Heidi Hess Saxton. I am very grateful to her for coming to my aide on how to discern foster care and adoption.

I have to admit, I know nothing about this, except for those whom I have known that adopted or were adopted. Heidi comes to answer many questions to put our minds to rest but maybe it will lead us to pray more deeply and maybe consider the question, "Is God asking me to adopt?"

That is the question in many of our hearts these days. How do we answer this question and put it to rest in our minds and hearts? Prayer and more prayer... and then there's more....read on....

Should We Consider Adoption or Foster Care?

"How did you and your husband decide to become foster parents?"

It's a question people frequently ask me when they discover we foster-adopted our two children. Most often, their tone indicates that we have done something extraordinary, even heroic.

In reality, no hand from heaven came down to deliver a special invitation to us. No angel materialized on our doorstep, kids in tow. Instead, God used our natural desires to have a family; a series of doors presented themselves to us, which we tested one at a time until we found the one that had our children behind it.


Door One: Acknowledge Grief and Fear

From the beginning, we knew that it would be highly unlikely that the ordinary path to parenthood was in store for us. A fertility specialist confirmed that my medical history and or ages made it unlikely that we would conceive without assistance. And yet, we were sure of two things: (1) If God wanted us to become parents, it would happen in His way, in His time. (2) We refused to let infertility wreak havoc on our marriage, as it had preoccupied and even destroyed the marriages of other couples we knew. We remained open and trusting, simply taking life one day at a time.

I was very fortunate in that Craig and I always seemed to be on the same page where these decisions were concerned. I knew couples where one - usually the woman - longs to enlarge their family, while the other is content just as things are. One is eager to adopt ... while the other holds back because of the expense, or the inconvenience, or out of fear of what adding an "unknown quantity" might do to the existing family dynamic.


Door Two: Gather Information

In situations like this, it's important to arrive at a mutual decision based not on fears, but facts. Talk with other adoptive and foster parents to find out the names of reputable agencies in your area - then go to an information meeting or two. Online sources are also available; websites like adoption.com or tools like the "Adoption Guide Planner" can help you decide which kind of adoption for foster plan is best suited to your family situation.

Adoption need not be expensive, especially if you consider foster care or foster-adoption. You do not even need to own your own home, and a wide variety of resources are available to assist couples with more heart than money. In the state of Michigan, for example, children adopted out of the foster care system continue to receive the monthly subsidy and medical insurance benefits that they received while they were wards of the state; they are also eligible for a variety of benefits ranging from free hot lunches to free college tuition.

Neither is the age of a couple necessarily a barrier. Remember that no two children are the same, or have the same level of need. Couples who feel too old to do the "diaper brigade" may be a godsend for a grade-school child or teenager whose opportunities for a real home diminish with each passing year. Those who long for a baby - but who are willing to open their hearts a little wider, to include the infant's older brothers or sisters - can find the blessings multiply with the challenges. In many cases, families willing to consider a child with special needs (both temporary, due to trauma, and more long-term physical and developmental needs) or a biracial child often discover that love comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.


Door Three: Prepare Yourself

So what do you need to be a good foster or adoptive parent?

Patience. Whether dealing with bureaucratic red tape, a toddler who hides food in the closet, or a boy-crazy teen, you will have ample opportunity to practice virtue.

Support. Even experienced parents will quickly discover that adoption and foster care is an "extended family affair." When extended family lives too far away to be of practical assistance, it becomes that much more important to cultivate a support network - even if you have to pay for it temporarily. (In the beginning, a large chunk of our subsidy checks were spent on babysitters and housekeepers.)

Faith. Adoptive and foster parenting is not for wimps, or for those with an over-inflated sense of self-reliance. Extraordinary parenting (investing yourself in the life of a child you did not bring into the world yourself) requires spiritual strength, cultivated through prayer and the sacraments.

Time. A child that comes to you through adoption and foster care will often require special attention, especially in the first months that he or she joins the family. Especially for the first six months or so, the child needs one primary caregiver to assist with the bonding process. Depending on how he came to you, he may also have physical and emotional problems that may not immediately present themselves. Remember... parenting is a marathon, not a sprint!


Door Four: Make a Choice

As you gather the information you need, continue to ask the Holy Spirit to make your way clear to you. Remember that while God calls us to take up certain challenges in life, ultimately the choice is ours to make. Adoption and foster care is an adventure for the whole family ... and yet, timing is very important.

For example, you may decide to postpone adding to your family until your youngest child is in school, or even wait until all your children are fully grown. Or you may decide that a younger sibling is just what you and your children need to grow in virtue!

If after gathering the information you need to make your decision together, and you conclude that adoption and foster care is not appropriate at this time, there are other ways to make a difference in the life of a child. You can volunteer as a tutor or mentor through your local school or "Big Brother/Big Sister" program. Become a CASA volunteer, who befriends and advocates for foster children currently in the system. Volunteer as a respite worker for foster or single parents. Host a fundraiser to assist families from your church who are pursuing international adoption, or organize special needs children, and offer them practical support - even sitting with the child while they go to Mass for an hour of uninterrupted prayer.

I must say, it was today that I was inspired to remember St. Therese, as her novena started yesterday. My humanity tells me that I am one day short of beginning this novena. Therese is always sending her gift of love to us, no matter how late we are in showing our love, for she has been purified by God's love. She suffered in her life and offered herself to the Father. Her little way teaches us to lift our sufferings also. If you are a day late in starting this novena to St. Therese, remember your angel will meet her in Heaven on the feast of the Angels and she will remember you. May she shower roses upon you in answer to your many prayers.

Napro Center Announcement

New York City is getting a NaPro center! The JPII Center for Women will open an authentically Catholic, comprehensive women's healthcare center in Manhattan in July 2009. The center will offer many services for women, including NaProTechnology. The project is still in the early stages, but you can follow the progress on their blog.

With more than 1.5 million people in Manhattan, it is hard to believe that this will be its first NaPro center. It is even more surprising considering the large Catholic population in the city (there are about 2.5 million Catholics in the Archdiocese of New York).

The center is the dream of a Carmelite mother of seven, who lives in Upstate New York with her family, and a young doctor from Pennsylvania. The two women, with the help of generous anonymous donors, are teaming up to make their dream a reality and help countless women along the way.

Here's an excerpt from their blog:

Our goal is to create a uniquely woman-centered "medical home" for women living in Manhattan and surrounding areas, a place where women can come for all of their healthcare needs -- both general and reproductive -- a place where they will receive excellent medical care in an environment that supports and affirms their dignity as women.

We hope to be a "home" where women can feel comfortable, knowing that their medical care is completely in line with their Catholic values (practicing according to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Healthcare) and where their unique needs and challenges as wives, mothers, daughters, religious or single lay women are considered and addressed as part of their comprehensive medical care.

How exciting! What an awesome opportunity for NaProTechnology to be made visible to such a wide audience. NaPro is not just some alternative for those of us who happen to be Catholic; it is a medically-sound, proven and often more successful alternative to assisted reproductive technologies, not to mention it focuses on diagnosing and treating the disease rather than just applying a band-aid. As the doctor behind this project told me, it will only be a matter of time before NaPro sweeps the nation!

Please keep this center in your prayers, those involved would truly appreciate it. Perhaps you could pray especially to St. Gianna, since the center will be named for her (the "JPII Center for Women" is the name it is incorporated under, but Gianna will be the name of the actual center. Actually, John Paul II is probably another great one to pray to for this as well! What wonderful helpers the center will have in heaven!).

This is something that I have been pondering for the last few days and wanted to share this with you all. It is a wonder that this post follows the "Triumph of the Cross" and "Our Lady of Sorrows" feasts. I do believe that Our Dear Mother in Heaven wants us to have hope! Our Lady of Hope

On January 17, 1871, Our Lady of Hope appeared in the French village of Pontmain. There she reveales herself as the "Madonna of the Crucifix" and gave the world her message of "Hope through Prayer and the Cross." The basilica built at Pontmain by the Oblates fo Mary Immaculate is one of the great French pilgrimage places, noted for its miracles of grace.

A Living Hope

Dear friends, as we continue on our individual journeys of faith (and yet together), I feel called to share this passage from 1 Peter 1:6-9, for our personal prayer and meditation. May God bless you richly!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls.

What a beautiful apostolate you have for women who have and are experiencing infertility. My husband and I experienced infertility for 5 years and—by the grace of God—we have two young boys. We are trying again and hopefully God will bless us again. However, the pains of infertility are still present in our hearts. And, I have a very strong empathetic response to women who are childless right now. As we attended Holy Mass today, I thought of all of us lifting our cross to the one who has triumphed in the cross. St. Pio tells us we must embrace our cross with Christ, for without Christ with us, it is impossible. Let us lift our hearts and minds to Our Lord today on this special feast,

I pray that my dear friend at All You Who Hope, doesn't mind me linking her post for

Another day.

I find her words heart warming as we try to embrace our cross each day... It is not easy whatever the cross. Our infertility, losing a child through miscarriage, the early death of a child, illness, or the process of giving up my will over Gods Holy will.

Our prayer for you today is that you will find hope, strength and encouragement in the journey of another soul trying to embrace her cross. We are all called to encourage each other... we are all called to be another "Simon of Cyrene". This is just what "All You Who Hope" does for us today, she brings encouragement to us who seek to follow Our Lord in the teachings of Holy Mother Church. If you follow her site you see her trials, of hope and sorrow, but most of all you see her continual trust in the Lord no matter what life seems to bring.

Remember dear friends it is in the trying that we carry our cross with faith, hope and love... we are only human...take one day at a time. Our Lady is with you in your sufferings, continue to seek her aide.

Our next Mass ~for the intentions of Hannah's Tears will be February 2, 2009, at 11:45 a.m., St. Patrick Church, Columbus, Ohio.


These Masses have been scheduled for the 4 seasons of the year starting in 2009, we will begin our first Mass in February for the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. Our 2nd Mass will be March 25, for the Feast of the Annunciation. Third is scheduled for July 26, for the feast of Sts. Anne and Joachim (parents of Mary and Grandparents of Christ) and September 8, for the birth of Mary.

Sant Rafca (Rebecca) ~ September 1 ~ Little Flower of Lebanon

Like Therese of Lisieux, Rafca, "The Little Flower of Lebanon," the "Purple Rose," the "Silent and Humble Nun", had to tell her life story to her Mother Superior some months before her death. Obedience to this request is the reason why today we are able to know something about this woman who sought for nothing else but to be forgotten by men and live only for God. However, the perfume of this violet immediately spread after her death and has attracted the attention of the ecclesiastical authorities.
