Prayers for Emilie's Family

I wouldn't generally post something like this. But I must say that Emilie was a woman of great faith who was a wife, mother and writer. She should be remembered for the great strength that God gave her.

Emilie passed away December 24, 2008
Please keep Emilie's family in your prayers

New Years letter and reflection~from our Poor Clare Colettine Nuns

Dear Little hearts,

2008 is drawing to a close, the year will soon be ended, let us give thanks to God for all that it has brought to us of sorrow, of joy... for each of us it will have been a combination of both, no doubt we all have much to say Thank you too God for and to each other, much to be sorry for, let us plunge it all into his great Heart of Love and mercy and go forward into this New year holding the light of faith aloft for others to share and draw warmth from.....

This evening we are having a vigil of prayer and this will be followed by a midnight Mass to bring in the New Year, you will all be remembered tonight and I would like to thank you all for your love and friendship, your example, and your witness to God...each one of you is precious, and no matter how insignificant you may think it is we are always so happy to share anything with you of our faith and love journey!

Here we are plunged in deep frost and fog.....But tomorrow is the feast of the Holy Mother of God and what better way than to enter into the New year with Mary. Every blessing upon each and everyone of you.

With love,

Your Poor Clare Collettine Nuns

Mary at the Door of the New Year

O, Mary, Queen of Heaven and Queen of life.
You are the ...
Woman of beauty and Mother of Sorrows.
You stand before us, among us
at the Door of this New Year.
You it is who will walk this great chaotic expanse with us.

O, Mother, Mary, only with you,
have we the courage to continue
to go forward, to step out into the unknown;
hold us firmly by the hand.
As the Door of the year opens, a vast desert is seen ahead
the horizon lost to sight.

O Mary, how merciful, how great is the love of your Son!
If we could see, really see, our hearts would shrink within us,
but Jesus in his merciful love calls us forwards, upwards
just one step at a time.
The future is mercifully hidden from our gaze.

O, Mother, gentle enduring presence,
companion ever at our side
what do we see?
Wars, rumours of wars,
earthquakes, devastation, corruption and sin,
all strewn along the path that winds through
the expanse that lies ahead,
that borders the time of this coming year,
suffering and pain.

Ah, Via Dolorosa! O, Mary, Mother of Sorrows
your heart is pierced,
A thousand crucifixes stand on either side
of the road that leads from the door of the New Year
into the future ...
But you are with us!
You are with your Church!
May we be with you!
Co-workers for Christ, sharing the burdens
of His sufferings ...

O, Mary lead us onwards through the brambles and the thorns,
You are a sure hope, Immaculata, because we are on your path to God.
O, Mary, Mother of Compassion as we travel onwards
may compassion and mercy be our gift to those we meet.
To the fallen, Mary give your solace!
To the tempted, reach out your hands!

O, Mary, my heart fails me
at just one glimpse of the road of life,
but in the hour of need, the grace of your Son
never fails! Never fails!
Mother, your love is interwoven into the very fabric of my life.
You give me hope, I know your Heart will triumph!

Fiat! Fiat, be it done unto humankind
according to His Word!!!
I am ready, Mary, take my hand,
I trust you totally, I surrender to the darkness,
I will follow wherever you would have me go ...

Yes, Mary.
The ways of faith lead to the waters of Eternal life
through the sweet Passion of your Son.
Onwards, yes! O, Mary...
I trust, I believe! ... for yo
u are
The Porta Caeli! The Gate of heaven!

Yes Mary, fling wide the door
upon this New year..
Yes! For love, your love, His love, our love,
will yet bring us safely to our destination.
Yes, let us step out now!

Such joy, such bliss, such happiness
will yet be ours!

December 23, Feast of Saint John Cantius

“God was constantly in his heart and on his lips.”

May we learn to keep Our Lord in our hearts and on our lips as St. John Cantius did, may he intercede for us in our many needs today and always.

“Going hand-in-hand with that true brand of humility one saw in him a great childlike humility. There was nothing deceitful or ambiguous in his actions and words. Whatever was in his heart he unhesitantly and honestly revealed. If he thought that his words, even when speaking the truth, could accidentally offend someone, he humbly asked for forgiveness before approaching the altar.”

The Star of Bethlehem

I was just watching EWTN this morning and I wanted to share with you this beautiful film, called "The Star of Bethlehem". Wow! How beautiful it is that faithful scientists are finding the beauty of the TRUTH. Let's support this wonderful film, as we trust in the one who was sent from Our Father in Heaven. How can we not trust in the HOPE of a savior sent to save the world?

O Antiphons "God with us"

O Emmanuel, the God with us, he will not leave us orphans, he will not abandon us, he has chosen to dwell amongst us, poor and sinful and struggling as we are, that speaks so of the greatness of the love of our God.

Emmanuel God with us, with us in his Holy Word, speaking to us, guiding us, challenging us, consoling us.... Emmanuel God with us, he is with us in the Holy Sacrament and especially the Holy Sacrament of the altar, God among his people.

Emmanuel God with us, he is with us in our pain and suffering, for it is his own pain and suffering, Emmanuel God with us, let us give thanks to God... and soon, soon to be reborn in our midst this Christmas, a tiny babe... he alone can save us, he alone can rescue us from the sorry plight that we are in, why seek peace, meaning, love where it is not to be found, but rather let us turn to him with total faith and trust, for HE IS WITH US !!!!

O Emmanuel our king and lawgiver, the hope of all nations and their saviour; come and save us, O Lord our God.

O Emmanuel, Rex et Legifer noster, Expectatio gentium, et Salvador earum: Veni ad salvandum nos, Domine Deus noster.

A Christmas Gift

A beautiful note received from the Poor Clare Colettine Nuns.

Dear little Hearts,

Psalm 51
Wash away my sins Lord
My guilt doth wear me down
Purify my heart.

How we all crave forgiveness as we cannot live with the burden of guilt. Christmas is very nearly here now the season for gift giving. Surely a gift of the heart is far more potent than a gift of the purse. Joy at receiving a wrapped gift can be shortlived but a gift straight from the heart can remain with the recipient a lifetime. One of the most valuable gifts one can give is the gift of forgiveness. How we long for forgiveness from our God for our wrong doings but what of those who are waiting for forgiveness from us.

Father forgive them for they know not what they do.

Carrying resentment for our fellow man in our hearts is as huge a burden as guilt itself. So, dear hearts, let us pray this morning that those of us who are carrying resentment may find it in their hearts to give as a gift this Christmas forgiveness. It will make the person we have forgiven very happy and also make ourselves immensely happy and give us peace of heart and what a wonderful Christmas gift for Jesus.

Offering to the Christ Child

You may wonder, why a post with a prayer of Saint Therese, during this advent season?

Something that came to me in prayer yesterday, was that I must prepare my heart for the Christ Child. I must wrap up my gift, my sufferings and give them to him, who takes all that I will ever endure when he takes up the cross during his passion. This image is everlasting as we go through the seasons of Advent, and the coming of Lent. Christ is alive, his life is ever present in the Mass and the sacrament of holy Eucharist. Just imagine that your cross was especially made for you, it was one of the many splinters that made up the cross that Christ carried for you and me. The vision of this shows me and I pray it shows you just how much He loves you as an individual.

You are that treasure that he holds close to his heart, more precious than gold!

What can I give the Christ Child this year? ME.

The prayer below is that offering of ourselves to Christ... Saint Therese knew suffering, but her suffering was also gifted with a joyful presence. May we learn to embrace the Child Jesus in our lives and may his true presence bring us the joy we need to accept all this life will bring to each of us. May his presence this year fill you with hope and peace! Let us open our hearts to the Christ Child that He may be born into our hearts this Christmas. May we also learn to be that tabernacle of love for him this new year. God bless you!

ACT OF OBLATION OF ST. THÉRÈSE OF THE CHILD JESUS
OF THE HOLY FACE TO THE MERCIFUL LOVE OF GOD
J.M.J.T.

Offering of myself as a Victim of Holocaust to God’s Merciful Love.

9th June 1895

O My God! Most Blessed Trinity, I desire to Love You and make You Loved, to work for the glory of Holy Church by saving souls on earth and liberating those suffering in purgatory. I desire to accomplish Your will perfectly and to reach the degree of glory You have prepared for me in Your Kingdom. I desire, in a word, to be a saint but I feel my helplessness and I beg You, O my God! To be Yourself my Sanctity!

Since You loved me so much as to give me Your only Son as my Saviour and my Spouse, the infinite treasures of His merits are mine. I offer them to You with gladness, begging You to look upon me only in the Face of Jesus and in His heart burning with Love.

I offer You, too, all the merits of the saints (in heaven and on earth), their acts of Love, and those of the holy angels. Finally, I offer You, O Blessed Trinity! The love and merits of the Blessed Virgin, my dear Mother. It is to her I abandon my offering, begging her to present it to You. Her Divine Son, my Beloved Spouse, told us in the days of His mortal life: “Whatsoever you ask the Father in my name He will give it to you!” I am certain, then, that You will grant my desires; I know, O my God! That the more You want to give, the more You make us desire. I feel in my heart immense desires and it is with confidence I ask You to come and take possession of my soul. Ah! I cannot receive Holy Communion as often as I desire, but, Lord, are You not all-powerful? Remain in me as in a tabernacle and never separate Yourself from Your little victim.

I want to console You for the ingratitude of the wicked, and I beg of You to take away my freedom to displease You. If through weakness I sometimes fall, may Your Divine Glance cleanse my soul immediately, consuming all my imperfections like the fire that transforms everything into itself.

I thank You, O my God! For all the graces You have granted me, especially the grace of making me pass through the crucible of suffering. It is with joy I shall contemplate You on the Last Day carrying the scepter of Your Cross. Since You deigned to give me a share in this very precious Cross, I hope in heaven to resemble You and to see shining in my glorified body the sacred stigmata of Your Passion.

After earth’s Exile, I hope to go and enjoy You in the Fatherland, but I do not want to lay up merits for heaven. I want to work for Your Love alone with the one purpose of pleasing You, consoling Your Sacred Heart, and saving souls who will love You eternally.

In the evening of this life, I shall appear before You with empty hands, for I do not ask You, Lord, to count my works. All our justice is stained in Your eyes. I wish, then, to be clothed in Your own Justice and to receive from Your Love the eternal possession of Yourself. I want no other Throne, no other Crown but You, my Beloved! Time is nothing in Your eyes, and a single day is like a thousand years. You can, then, in one instant prepare me to appear before You.

In order to live in one single act of perfect Love, I Offer Myself as a Victim of Holocaust to Your Merciful Love, asking You to consume me incessantly, allowing the waves of infinite tenderness shut up within You to overflow into my soul, and that thus I may become a martyr of Your Love, O my God!

May this martyrdom, after having prepared me to appear before You, finally cause me to die and may my soul take its flight without any delay into the eternal embrace of Your Merciful Love.

I want O my Beloved, at each beat of my heart to renew this offering to You an infinite number of times, until the shadows having disappeared I may be able to tell You of my Love in an Eternal Face to Face!

Marie, Francoise, Thérèse of the Child Jesus
and the Holy Face, unworthy Carmelite religious.

Feast of the Most Holy Trinity,

Prayer for our hearts...

This is such a beautiful prayer, I thought that it would be wonderful to share with you as we prepare for the 9 days before Christmas. May this be a novena of prayer for our hearts as we journey to find the Christ Child...

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED AND EUCHARISTIC HEART OF JESUS

Jesus, burning with love for us, we love You more than life. You gave everything for love of us, and we now return everything for love of You. Do with us as You will, Lord. We ask only the grace to respond to all You may send into our lives in the manner most pleasing to You. May all we do glorify You and help bring Your Kingdom to earth. We wish to embrace each joy and suffering with great love. And even through our tears we whisper, “All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, all for the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, in union with St. Joseph.”

We love You, Jesus. Be glorified. May Your reign be recognized on earth!

December 14, 2008 ~ Gaudete Sunday

A day to rejoice! We have finally reached the 3rd Sunday of Advent, a time of joy as we await Emmanuel. God love us so much that He sent his only son, Emmanuel, which means God with us. God is still with us through his gift to us in the Catholic Church, what a treasure we have been given in the richness of her wisdom. Friday December 12, All You Who Hope let many of us know that the Church in her wisdom has given us the CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH who has come out with "Dignitas Personae on Certain Bioethical Questions". This writing from Holy Mother Church answers everything any Catholic couple who struggles with fertility needs to hear. God is so good to us...we are not alone. God is with us!!!!

Guest Post from a Mom Pondering the Loss of Her Unborn Child

We would like to share a guest post from my friend Cookie, who has just endured the loss of her unborn baby and ponders Our Lord's will for little Gerard. I want to thank Cookie for giving me the permission to share this with all of you.

If any of you have endured a loss, please know that you are being lifted in our prayers today and everyday. Please keep Cookie and her family in your prayers as they recover from their loss. Our prayer for you is that this ministry is reaching your hearts and that you will find comfort in our prayers for each of you. If any of you feel called to share your story, please feel free to write us at Hannahs.Tears@gmail.com ... and we would be happy to share it.

God Bless,
Your Hannah's Tears Intercessor
___________________________________________________________

Dear Family & Friends,

We have sad and disappointing news. Yesterday, at the sonogram we found out that our baby has gone on already to be with the Lord. We are going through the grieving process but not without hope. “I tell you most solemnly, you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. For I shall see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy, and that joy no one shall take from you.” (John 16:20)

I have a great rosary mediation book and in it is written, “We experience great sadness in life precisely because we forget things. Jesus institutes the Eucharist to make his love for us unforgettable….The Eucharist reminds us that we are possessed by God, and that Communion fills us with gladness and peace.” This is so true for me. When I remember that I belong to the Lord and that I can trust in His love and mercy, I find so much peace. I see Him again and my heart is filled with joy. When we have Him, truly we lack nothing!

And again, as we strive to reach heaven, our ultimate goal, these children we have lost on earth are just helping to direct our gaze onward. :-)

We named the child Gerard. St. Gerard (1726 – 1755) is known as the patron saint of expectant mothers. I had just finished a novena to him on Tuesday. But the novena I did was not for expectant mothers. It was one to help you grow in virtue. I always added asking him to pray for the baby too. His dominant virtue was trusting in God’s Providence. The saint once remarked: “If anyone unable to bear the sufferings which God has sent him, calls on me for help…or if I hear of such a one, I will pray that God give him the grace of conformity with His holy Will.” He is doing this for us. And guess what! Today, 104 years ago, December 11, 1904, Gerard was canonized. I didn’t even know that until today. Isn’t that neat!

I did suffer some depression and a touch of despair last night as I couldn’t sleep. I knew it was only a passing moment for the Lord’s joy has always returned to me after such an experience. However, it did remind me to pray for all those who suffer from depression and despair with no hope. I believe it is unbearable. We must remember to pray for them and be ready to witness to the joy of the Lord at any moment to them. St. Gerard please pray for them.

Forgive me please for going on too much. But most of you should know me by now. You could have stopped reading awhile back. :-)

Thank you again for all your prayers. They have definitely been effective, just not in the way we had hoped for, but in a way needed!

With love and affection,
Cookie

Saint Lucy

Saint Lucy

Prayer:
Saint Lucy, you did not hide your light under a basket, but let it shine for the whole world, for all the centuries to see. We may not suffer torture in our lives the way you did, but we are still called to let the light of our Christianity illumine our daily lives. Please help us to have the courage to bring our Christianity into our work, our recreation, our relationships, our conversation -- every corner of our day. Amen
_________________________________________________________

*The Legend of the Lucia Queen*

This is a feast traditional to Sweden but has now become world wide. Saint Lucy was a Christian maiden who lived many years ago in Rome. Because she refused to give up her religion she was burnt at the stake by the order of the Emperor Diocletian.

Her Saint's Day falls on Dec 13th, a day that was actually already celebrated in pre-Christian Sweden as the beginning of the festival of light- the Winter solstice, the day when the sun was said to stand still. Because Saint Lucy's feast coincided with the time of year when daylight was at its minimum, she was especially loved by the peoples living in lands that had long winter nights.

In Swedish homes, usually the youngest daughter is chosen to be the Lucy Queen. On Christmas morning wearing a white gown and a crown of lighted candles, she brings breakfast and a Christmas song to all the family assembled.

For us, our Christmas day is usually already full, but you might like to think of ways of creating a Lucy celebration of your own on her actual feast. Lucy is the source of much beautiful imagery, not least in Dante's "Purgatory", where she wanders through purgatory bearing a light for those sojourning there. A beautiful touch from a great poet.

Enjoy your feast of Light with Queen Lucia.

Happy Feast Day Saint Hannah and Blessed Juan Diego Intercessors for Life

December 9th

Saint Hannah and Blessed Juan Diego are remembered in our hearts today as they both suffered with fertility problems within their marriages. Hannah begged God at the foot of the altar for a child and Juan Diego and his wife would be called in another way to bear fruit. To each soul God has a different plan.

May each of us accept God's holy will for our lives today and give thanks.

St. Hannah bringing Samuel into the temple

The Holy Prophetess Hannah dwelt in marriage with Elkanah, but she was childless. Elkanah took to himself another wife, Phennena, who bore him children. Hannah grieved strongly over her misfortune, and every day she prayed for an end to her barrenness, vowing to dedicate her child to God.

She went to the Temple and prayed fervently, but the priest Heli thought that she was drunk and began to reproach her. But Hannah poured out her grief, and after she received a blessing, she returned home. After this, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son, whom she named Samuel (which means “Asked from God”).

When the child reached the age of boyhood, his mother presented him to the priest Heli, and Samuel remained with him to serve before the Tabernacle (1 Kings/1 Samuel 2: 1-21).

Bl. Juan Diego

Prayer to Blessed Juan Diego

Blessed Juan, you faced the skepticism and rejection of a

bishop and the crowds to bring Mary's message to Mexico.

Pray for us that when we are faced with obstacles to

our faith we may show that same courage and commitment.

Amen
